Emotional Overwhelm

Emotional overwhelm can feel like everything is just too much.

Your thoughts might race, your chest can feel tight or heavy, and even simple decisions become hard to make. For some people, it shows up physically too—headaches, stomach aches, or a constant sense of tension in the body.

At times, it can feel like you’ve shut down completely, unsure where to start or how to move forward.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Many of the people I work with are high-functioning on the outside, but inside they feel anxious, exhausted, or disconnected from themselves.

You might look like you’re coping, but it doesn’t feel that way.

Sometimes overwhelm builds slowly. It’s not always one big event—it can be a build-up of smaller stresses over time, like pressure at work, relationship struggles, or that constant feeling of not being “good enough.”

Eventually, it reaches a point where your system feels overloaded.  Other times, emotional overwhelm is connected to something deeper.

In my work I incorporate a gentle, trauma-informed approach to emotional overwhelm. Therapy with me isn’t about fixing you—because you’re not broken.

Instead, we create a space where you can slow things down and begin to understand what’s really going on underneath the overwhelm. At your own pace, we explore your thoughts, emotions, and patterns, while also helping you reconnect with your body in a way that feels safe and manageable.

Over time, our work together can help you feel more calm, grounded, and in control of your emotional world. You may begin to notice:

  • Less overthinking and emotional intensity

  • A stronger sense of self and what you need

  • The ability to set boundaries without guilt

  • More connected and fulfilling relationships

Most importantly, you can start to feel like yourself again.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected, therapy can be a place to gently begin making sense of it all—so life doesn’t have to keep feeling this hard.
